Oats-Poha

Integrant of the recipe :

  • Oats – 1 cup
  • Sambar powder – one Teaspoon
  • Medium poha (Beaten rice) – half a cup

Vegetable integrant :

  • Chopped Capsicum – one third a cup
  • Green peas – one handful
  • Grated Carrots – one-fourth a cup
  • Cooking oil – one tablespoon

Integrants for Seasonings :

  • Mustard seeds – one Teaspoon
  • Chopped Onions – one-third a cup
  • Turmeric powder – one Teaspoon
  • Red chilly – three or four pieces
  • Lemon juice – one Teaspoon
  • Blackgram dal – one Teaspoon
  • Salt – for taste
  • Curry leaves – two or three strands
  • Cumin seeds – one-third a Teaspoon
  • Chopped Green chilly – two or three

Oats-Poha Recipe :

  • Finely chop the onions after washing and pealing them. Also fine-chop green chilly and coriander leaves, separately, keep them aside.
  • Gently wash the beaten rice and add one teaspoon of sambar powder to it, mix it well and keep it aside for a few minutes.
  • Place a frying pan on medium/low flame and dry roast the oats till it gets a nutty aroma but do not burn it. Take out the roasted oats aside in a separate pan. Now, place the same frying pan with 4-5 teaspoons of cooking oil in it on medium flame. Add mustard seeds to the frying pan. When mustard seeds begin spluttering, add black gram dal and cumin seeds to it. Add chopped green chilli, curry leaves, red chilli pieces and let them fry till done. Finally, add chopped onions, turmeric powder and salt according to the taste to the dish to it and let it fry till transparent.
  • When done add all the chopped veggie and cook it, without water, put on the lid.
  • When done add beaten rice mixture and stir well. If required, sprinkle a little water for it to cook.
  • When done, add oats, and stir well. If required, only splash a little water.
  • Finally add grated fresh coconut, chopped cilantro from step-1 to it and squeeze lemn juice and mix well and switch off the flame.

Things to Keep in Mind :

  • Use medium variety of poha which is also used as poha upma.
  • Use of Quaker brand oats will not require sprinkling of water at the time of cooking.
  • Veggies should be grated and chopped fine so that they cook fast with poha.
  • To enhance the flavor add some masala to it.
